It's the holy grail of distance skating. It's pure distance, nothing more, nothing less. It's miles and miles of smooth tarmac passing under your feet as the hands on the clock tick round. 24 hours of pain, tears, smiles and achievement. The event is Ultraskate V, the location is Dorney, and I am about to do tell my body to go further than any girl has ever done. It's a bit much really, isn't it?
With my calf still aching from a 32 mile skate at the weekend, with some inspiring skaters, I have decided to embark on a bit of a mission for the next month. I have until October 10th to bring my body and mind to a state where they are ready to skate a very long distance in 24 hours. On the blog, I will detail my progress until the big day, talking about my learnings in the areas of diet, sport psychology, sleep deprivation and physical endurance.
I will tell you now, I am aiming for 60-70 miles, but what I won't tell you is the total I am going to add onto that. My true vision, well that will be decided on the day. Perhaps a mile for each day to go (clue)?
Think big, plan it,
do it.
